Winning the Indian Classic last weekend at St. Stephens, the Newton-Conover wrestling team kept the ball rolling this past weekend at North Iredell.

The Red Devils went undefeated at 7-0 during the two-day Raider Duals tournament, eventually ousting perennial 4A power Lake Norman, 40-27, to take the team title for the second-straight tournament.

Newton-Conover also defeated Albemarle (81-0), South Rowan (64-15), West Iredell (73-4), Statesville (56-18), Alexander Central (48-16) and North Iredell (42-23) along the way to its championship.

"I was proud of the way the team competed this weekend" said N-C coach Eddy Clark. "We have a great deal of youth in our line-up, but are still able to compete against the best in the state. That says a lot about the toughness of our kids."

Several wrestlers also went undefeated individually during the tournament and earned gold medals. These included Casey Toomey, Eric Holbrook, Addison Klutz, Nathan Reitzel, Tyler Benfield and Cody Sifford.

Other N-C wrestlers receiving medals were Ian Canrobert, Franklin Wepner and Dan Avis with silver medals, and Colin Minor and Jaron Pitts with bronze medals.

Newton-Conover returns to the wrestling mat Wednesday, hosting 3A Ashbrook at 6 p.m.
