N-C Stomps Saint in Opener

Newton-Conover opened its season Tuesday with an easy win over St. Stephens. The Red Devils defeated the Indians 60-24 at Newton-Conover. The Red Devils led 21-3 after the first quarter and never looked back.
The Red Devils were up 35-10 at halftime and 46-20 after the third quarter.
Newton-Conover had three players score in double figures Tuesday. Kadesha Gibbs led with a game-high 17 points and had five rebounds. Shynese Whitener scored 12 points, and Quazzy Tipps contributed 10.
Lauren Simmons led St. Stephens with six points.

FRED T. FOARD 69, BUNKER HILL 38: The Tigers used a strong second quarter to pull ahead of the Bears in the teams’ season opener. Foard led 34-14 at halftime Tuesday en route to its 31-point win.
Chelsea Turner scored a game-high 15 points for the Tigers and was the only Foard player in double digits. Nine Foard players scored in the nonconference win.
Wilbelis Rojas scored 11 points for Bunker Hill.

Boys Basketball
BUNKER HILL 69, FRED T. FOARD 50: Bunker Hill had an advantage Tuesday at the free throw line over Fred T. Foard. The Bears more than tripled the free-throw attempts by the Tigers.
The Bears closed the win strong — outscoring the Tigers 24-9 in the fourth quarter.
Both teams had three players score in double figures. Jeremy Null scored a game-high 27 points for Bunker Hill in the nonconference win. Delano Loritts contributed 15 points, and Cole McGraw added 13 points.
Tre Robinson led Foard with 21 points. Logan Setzer finished with 15 points, and Jordan Turner had 10.

ST. STEPHENS 82, NEWTON-CONOVER 69: The Indians outscored the Red Devils 28-4 in the second quarter to win by 13.
Morgan McLeod scored a team-high 21 points for St. Stephens.
Newton-Conover’s Dorian Shuford led all scores with 26.
