N-C Soccer Falls; Hickory Tennis Tops Saint

Draughn rode the momentum of two first-half goals in a 2-1 win Wednesday over Newton-Conover. Toua Xiong scored in the 9th minute on a mishandled ball in the box, and Jacob Crisp added an insurance goal in the 27th minute on a crossing pass from Aaron Yang.

Newton-Conover got on the board in the second half with a goal by Christian Marinero off a rebounded shot from Franklin Wepner. The Red Devils had an 8-6 shot advantage in the loss, and a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.

The Red Devils are now 3-2 against the Catawba Valley 2-A, and the Wildcats improved to 4-1.

SOUTH IREDELL 2, BANDYS 1
Viking Saul Garay scored the game-winning goal in the Vikings's win Wednesday at Bandys. Dylan Crawford gave South Iredell a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 11th minute.

Thomas Lunsford scored Bandys' lone goal in the 29th minute with an assist from Bobby Wicks.

Bandys fell to 2-3-0 against the Catawba Valley 2-A, and South Iredell is 3-1-1 after the win.

VOLLEYBALL
FRED T. FOARD 3, BUNKER HILL 0
The Tigers swept the Bears 3-0 on Wednesday in a non-conference match at Fred T. Foard.

Drew Worrells led Foard with 10 kills and seven digs. Rebecca Scott had 16 assists, and Kelsey Hammer finished with five aces.

Foard improved to 7-6 with the win Wednesday and is 2-3 against the Northwestern 3-A/4-A. The loss drops Bunker Hill to 3-10 overall, and the Bears have a 2-5 record against the Catawba Valley 2-A after a loss Tuesday to East Burke.

Bunker Hill plays at home Thursday against South Iredell.
