N-C Loses Opening Match

The Newton-Conover Red Devils lost 8-1 to Lake Norman on Tuesday in their opening tennis match of the 2010 season. Hanna Sigmon and Alex Barone teamed up in doubles to earn the Red Devils' only point in the match.

NORTH LINCOLN 3, BUNKER HILL 0
North Lincoln defeated Bunker Hill 3-0 on Tuesday in a non-conference match.
North Lincoln won the games 25-16, 25-23 and 25-18.
Cheyenne Pump led the Bears with 11 digs and an ace.

ST. STEPHENS 3, DRAUGHN 0
The Indians won 25-10, 25-18 and 25-12.
Paige Heeke had 13 kills and 10 digs to lead the Indians. Taylor Cummins had 17 digs, and Abby Foster contributed 24 assists.
St. Stephens improved to 1-1, and Draughn is 0-1.

MEN'S SOCCER
FRED T. FOARD 2, FREEDOM 1
Fred T. Foard defeated Freedom on Tuesday in the Tigers' second game at the Freedom soccer invitational tournament.
Brody Ruffner, assisted by Daniel Tomberlin, scored the Tigers' first goal, and the second goal was scored by Christopher Finley. Luke Shely assisted on Finley's goal.

SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE
KANNAPOLIS 8, HICKORY 2
The Hickory Crawdads grabbed the lead in the top of the first inning, but it faded fast. Kannapolis scored three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-2 lead, and the Intimidators beat the Crawdads 8-2.
Kannapolis’ Ian Gac hit a two-run home run in the first inning off Hickory pitcher Braden Tullis.
Tullis dropped to 6-1 after the loss. He pitched five innings giving up six runs on 11 hits.
Hickory is now four games behind first-place Lakewood.
