After hosting first- and second-round matches in the dual team state playoffs Tuesday, the Newton-Conover and Fred T. Foard wrestling teams will hit the road for their third- and fourth-round match-ups today.

The Red Devils (40-2), who topped Ashe County in the first round and Chase in the second round, take on T.W. Andrews (14-4) in round three.

If successful, Newton-Conover will face the winner of host Wheatmore (23-9) and Piedmont (35-0), a team that has knocked the Red Devils out of the dual team playoffs each of the last two seasons.

After taking down Enka and West Iredell in rounds one and two, Foard (30-1) travels to Concord today to compete against SW Randolph (34-2). The winner of that match-up takes on either host Jay M. Robinson (20-1) or North Gaston (28-8).

The winners in both final four matchups will claim Western Regional championships and take on the winners of the Eastern Regional championships for a state title.

If Foard wins, the Tigers would travel to the site of the 3A Eastern Regional champion.

Newton-Conover would host the 2A Eastern Champion at NCHS on Saturday if it wins the Western Regional championship.

2A bracket
Newton-Conover (40-2) vs. TW Andrews (14-4)
Wheatmore (23-9) vs. Piedmont (35-0)

3A bracket
Fred T. Foard (30-1) vs. SW Randolph (34-2)
North Gaston (28-8) vs. JM Robinson (20-1)
