Newton-Conover and Fred T. Foard advanced to Thursdayâ€™s third round of the NCHSAA playoffs.
Two other Catawba County schools â€” Bandys and St. Stephens â€” werenâ€™t as fortunate. Both squads had their seasons ended.
The Tigers (30-1) had to overcome a 27-3 deficit early on to win and advance.
Newton-Conover (40-2) took out Ashe County in the first round and followed that up with a 42-18 win against Chase.
The Trojans lost a close contest with Thomasville (27-11), ending Bandysâ€™ season with a 17-12 record.
The Indians also fell in round one, losing to North Iredell. St. Stephens finishes 2012 at 26-7.
