N-C begins search for next Red Devils coach

April 4, 2012

After learning Wednesday that longtime Newton-Conover head football coach Nick Bazzle is leaving for Alexander County, education leaders reflected on the Red Devils leader as a great coach and a great friend.

“It's been a great experience to see how Nick has taken this program and the accomplishments he's been able to have and had a great career here,” said Newton-Conover High School Principal Kevin Campbell. “He's someone I call a friend, not just a co-worker, and he's someone I'm going to miss.

"Our community will miss him.”

Despite sad faces and a bittersweet mood, Newton-Conover officials aren’t wasting any time in recruitment of a new head football coach.

Newton-Conover City Schools Superintendent Dr. Barry Redmond set a special meeting for 8 a.m. Thursday for school officials to create an interview team and timeline for hiring Bazzle's successor.
