Mountaineers Going Against The Gators

November 20, 2010

Appalachian State ends the regular season with its toughest match in recent history. The Mountaineers travel to Gainesville, Fla., this week for a regular-season finale against the Florida Gators.

The Gators (6-4) need to beat the Mountaineers (9-1) to avoid their fourth-straight home loss. Florida has lost four of its last six games.

"Make no mistake about it, the team we're playing isn't some clown show," Florida coach Urban Meyer said. "This is a real one."

The Mountaineers' most-recent game against a team from the Southeastern Conference was the 2008 season opener in Baton Rouge, La., against the LSU Tigers. LSU won 41-13.

App State is 7-37-1 all time against FBS opponents and 1-11 against current members of the SEC. Florida is 24-2 against current members of the Southern Conference.

The Mountaineers' 43-13 win last week in Boone over Wofford clinched their sixth-straight Southern Conference Championship — tying the record held by Georgia Southern.

Appalachian earned the conference's automatic bid in the NCAA Division I Football Championship.
