To end the nine week grading period, South Newton’s second grade welcomed WBTV’s Al Conklin to finish their science unit in weather. The students were eager to meet the local celebrity and Meteorologist.

“In planning the teachers said it would add to the unit if we got a Meteorologist, so I contacted the weather team,” South Newton second grade teacher Jane Clark said.

Clark said in preparing for his visit the second grade students were asked to take The WBTV Weather Safety Quiz that Conklin reviewed with the students. She also said the students began watching him on the news.

“The students were very excited and became more aware of the weather through watching,” Clark said.

Conklin’s message wasn’t just a career speech though, during his visit to South Newton, he spoke to the students about staying in school and studying.
