Martin promoted at Newton Fire Department

The city of Newton is pleased to announce the promotion of Jimmy Martin to Deputy Fire Chief.

Martin, a native of Newton, has volunteered and worked for the city for more than 30 years advancing his career in fire service.

He started as volunteer firefighter in December 1979 and was later named volunteer captain.

In July 2005, Martin was hired as a full-time firefighter. Four years later, he was promoted to engineer, and in June 2011, he was promoted to captain.

Martin is a North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission Certified Level II Firefighter, a Fire Apparatus and Aerial Operator and an Emergency Medical Technician. He has been certified as a Fire Inspector Level I by the North Carolina Building Code Council.
