Man stabbed outside home in Newton

November 23, 2011

A Newton man was stabbed in the abdomen early Tuesday morning in front of his home on North Main Avenue.

Brandon Michael Beatty, 20, of 1319 N. Main Ave. in Newton, was stabbed with a sharp, bladed object about 1:08 a.m. Tuesday in the driveway in front of his residence.

Beatty was taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening lacerations to his stomach. He was not listed as a patient at Catawba Valley Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon.

Police are still investigating what led to the stabbing, but officers arrested Michael Allen Wright, 30, of 2355 Herman Road in Claremont, in relation to the incident.

Beatty says Wright stabbed him in his driveway and asked him, “Where’s the money?” according to a Newton Police Department incident report.

Newton Police are still investigating what happened, said Newton Police Maj. Kevin Yarborough.

Yarborough said there is a discrepancy in the description of what happened, but said there was some indication an argument occurred shortly before the stabbing.

Wright has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and is being held in the Catawba County Detention Center on a $2,000 secured bond.
