A man was found murdered Friday outside a duplex in Hickory, and police arrested a suspect they say is responsible for the man's death.
Hickory Police responded to a call Friday about 9 a.m. from a resident who lives in the 1000 block of 20th Street NE, which is where the body was found.
Police arrived on the scene to find a male victim dead from an apparent gun shot wound to the chest. The victim was found outside the building lying on the ground.
The name of the victim hasn't been released pending notification of his family.
Police issued a murder warrant Friday for Orlando Murry Gibbs Williams, 27 of Hickory. He was later arrested at 2:27 p.m. and charged with murder.
It is unknown what the relationship was between the victim and Williams.
Williams' first court appearance is Monday in Superior Court at the Catawba County Justice Center in Newton. Williams is being held in Catawba County jail with no bond.
According to a HPD press release, police responded Thursday at 11:15 p.m. to a shots-fired call near Little Caesar's Pizza on Springs Road and 20th Street NE. Police arrived on the scene and didn't find anything of interest at the time.
HPD spokeswoman Libby Grigg said police are working to determine if the shots reportedly fired Thursday night are related to the man found murdered Friday morning.
