Man robs convenience store

Newton Police arrested a man Wednesday after he allegedly robbed a convenience store with a sawed-off shotgun.
Paul Edd Dalton Dollarhyde, 34, of Newton, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault by pointing a gun, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, possession of a firearm by a felon and resist obstruct and delay.
Police received a call Wednesday about 9 p.m. of an armed robbery in progress at the J&L Run-In, located at 1918 N. Main Ave. in Newton, according to Newton Police Chief Don Brown.
According to store manager Dora Harrison, Dollarhyde entered the store with a white piece of material tied around his head, carrying the loaded .20-caliber shotgun.
Store employee Deanna Moses Ramsey, 39, of Maiden, saw Dollarhyde enter the store. She started to walk behind the counter, which is protocol when a customer comes into the store, Harrison said.
Ramsey and Dollarhyde were the only people in the store during the robbery, but the store captured the incident from several different angles on its video surveillance cameras.
Dollarhyde, who Harrison said is a former store employee's boyfriend, allegedly ran into Ramsey as he walked behind the counter and demanded money.
"She did exactly what I told her to do," Harrison said. "I told her, 'You give (robbers) whatever they want.'"
