May 7, 2012

Police arrested a Hickory man Friday who they say is responsible for stealing medical supplies and a first responders bag from a vehicle outside a local hospital.

Benjamin Lee Crews, 22, of 3101 Kool Park Road NE in Hickory, was arrested and charged with larceny after breaking and entering, breaking and entering a vehicle, and possession of stolen property. He is in the Catawba County Detention Center on a $25,000 secured bond.

Police say the arrest stems from a recent vehicle break-in at Frye Regional Medical Center, when Crews allegedly stole a first responders bag, blood pressure cup, stethoscope, stun gun and a seat belt cutter/glass breaker and a GPS system.

The victim was assisting a family member to the emergency room inside the hospital, said Libby Grigg, of the Hickory Police Department.
