Making way for the new

Demolition was underway Thursday morning at the corner of N.C. 10 and Brady Avenue in Newton. The city of Newton recently acquired a group of buildngs in this area and has plans for the property that include new fire facilities. A crew from the D.H. Griffin Company drove the heavy equipment that stripped away parts of the old building and deposited them in a heap nearby. Some of the other buildings are expected to be burned in coming weeks as part of training for arson investigations and firefighting.
