Maiden man killed in Friday accident

A Maiden man was killed Friday when his vehicle overturned on Herter Road.

N.C. Highway Patrol officials say David Franklin Bivens Jr., 43, of Blackburn Bridge Road, Maiden, was pronounced dead on arrival when first responders arrived at the accident scene.

Officials said the wreck occurred approximately 2:38 a.m. Friday. According to a highway patrol incident assessment, Bivens Jr. was heading north on Herter Road when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road. Officials said he then veered sharply, crossing the center line, and again over-corrected.
