Maiden loses despite strong pitching

March 8, 2011

Maiden pitcher Hannah Callahan (right) pitched a complete
game on Tuesday and allowed four hits, one walk and struck
out nine West Lincoln batters. The Lady Blue Devils fell though,
3-1, behind a home run from Sadie Saine.

Despite a solid pitching performance from Hannah Callahan on Tuesday, the Lady Blue Devils were defeated by West Lincoln at home.

Callahan pitched a complete game and allowed four hits, one walk and struck out nine West Lincoln batters.

The Rebels (1-2) got the scoring in the game going in the top of the fourth inning, as Baily Fishel singled, advanced to third base on a throwing error and scored on a single by Emily Workman.

Maiden (1-2) tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth, as Mollie Sigmon scored on a single by Lauren Sizemore. That made it 1-1 after five innings.

West Lincoln had the final scores of the game in the top of the sixth. Karsen Leonhardt tripled with one out and Sadie Saine homered on the very next at-bat to give the Lady Rebels a 3-1 lead.

The Lady Blue Devil rallied in the bottom of the sixth, as Lindsey Schronce singled and Caroline Ward reached on an error. West Lincoln would get out of trouble in the inning though and preserve the lead.

Sigmon singled for the second time in the game in the bottom of the seventh, as she tried to rally her team to tie the game or take the lead. The next batter up, Kala Sigmon, singled, but Mollie went too far past second base and was thrown out trying to get back.

The next two hitters would be retired on fly outs, giving the Lady Rebels the victory.

Rylee Marsh pitched a strong complete game for West Lincoln. She struck out three batters, walked one and allowed five hits in the victory.

Sizemore finished 1-for-4 with an RBI. Mollie Sigmon finished 2-for-3 in the game with two singles. Ward was 1-for-3 with a double.
