Joe Goble just celebrated his 99th birthday. Born in 1914, he’s seen both world wars, the Great Depression and the invention of Internet. Goble remembers his first job, hitchhiking five miles to work for a dollar a day in Statesville.

He recalls driving across the country to find work in California but returning to see about a beautiful girl, whom he later married, in North Carolina.

Goble’s thirst for traveling taught him to live with the necessities.
