Local attorney picked by council

The Newton City Council agreed to hire Newton attorney, John Cilley to replace longtime city attorney Larry Pitts who passed away last week.
 
“We cannot ever fill the shoes that Larry left but the board all felt comfortable with John,” Mayor Anne P. Stedman said.
  
Pitts made the recommendation before he died on Jan. 2 for the council to appoint Cilley, said City Manager Todd Clark.
