LIVE: NCHSAA 2A West Regional finals - Bandys (28-2) vs. Wilkes Central (29-1)

Bandys and Wilkes Central meet today at 4 p.m. for the 2A West Regional championship. The Trojans won Friday against North Surry, while Wilkes Central picked up a three-point win against East Burke.

Wilkes Central 58, Bandys 45

Trojans pull out to an 11-4 lead with 2:57 in the first half. Wilkes Central takes a timeout.

Bandys used several in-bounds plays to earn scores through forwards Taylor Sigmon and Brittany Moss.

Behind four points each from Sigmon and Moss in the quarter, Bandys pulls out to a 13-6 lead.

The lead for Bandys grows to double digits behind great ball movement and execution with passes underneath for scores by Story and Haleigh Lackey, as well as a three-pointer to the outside by Chelsey Queen.

Returning from an early leg injury, Lady Eagles' forward Martha Mastin provided a last first-half boost, cutting the Trojan lead to five.

Just before the half ended, Bandys re-extended its lead to double digits again behind two three-pointers from Chelsey Queen. Trojans lead 32-19 at the half.

Bandys outrebounded Wilkes Central in the first half, 21-15, including eight by Sigmon to go along with her eight points. Moss has four points and six rebounds.

Queen is the Trojan's leading scorer with 11 points, including 3-for-4 from three-point territory.

Wilkes Central is paced by seven points from Paige Love and six points from Katie Ryder.

HALFTIME: Bandys 32, Wilkes Central 19

Lady Eagles start out the second half on a 11-0 run to cut the lead to two points, including a two baskets by Mastin and three by forward Haley Williams.

Williams scores 10 of Wilkes Central's 17 points in the quarter to make it a three-point game, 39-36, entering the fourth quarter.

A pair of free throws by Katie Ryder at the 7:02 mark give Wilkes Central the lead for the first time in the second half. Following another dish by Ryder to Masitn for a basket, Bandys takes a timeout to regroup.

Trojans try for a three-pointer on three-straight possessions from the 5-minute to the 3-minute mark, including two shots by Jesse Story and one by Chelsey Queen but are unsuccessful at tying the game.

The Eagles (30-1) were clutch down the stretch, making 16-of-18 free throw attempts to win by 13, 58-45.

Bandys finishes its season with a 28-3 record.

The Lady Trojans were led by Chelsey Queen, who scored 15 points. After scoring 33 points on Friday, Madi Story scored 10 points.
