Line-up set for Newton Unity Day

April 27, 2012

Newton's Human Relations Council announces the entertainment line-up for the 2012 Unity Day Celebration, which is scheduled for Saturday, noon-4 p.m. at Southside Park.

Entertainment is scheduled to include the Newton-Conover Middle School Chorus, the Pandemic Steel Drum Band, Mariachi Mexico 2000, Rhythmic Essence Belly Dance, Clinton Tabernacle Mass Choir, Pa Hmab Tawg Sib Cab (a Hmong dance group), Word of Life Choir, and Carolina Renaissance Festival. This line-up is sure to have something for everyone to enjoy.

In addition to entertainment, the event will include a “parade of flags” representing the many nationalities of Newton citizens, multi-cultural food vendors, inflatables and other children’s activities, door prizes and much more. The 2012 Unity Day Award will also be presented at the celebration.

The theme for the 2012 Unity Day Celebration remains the same – “One Community, One Humanity.” The mission of the celebration is: to bring the communities of the City of Newton together in unity and love; to promote positive multi-cultural relations and harmony throughout the City; to bring everyone together by raising the public’s vision above barriers of color, culture, and creed; and to celebrate the value and respect for diversity through dance, music, and food.

The public is cordially invited to attend this fun-filled family event. For more information, contact Public Information Officer Gary Herman at (828) 695-4266.
