Lilly, Mitchell post strong finishes at NC Amateur

Newton's Thomas Lilly and Conover's Lee Mitchell both posted solid thir and fourth rounds at the 52nd Annual North Carolina Amateur Championships this past weekend in Durham.

Lilly fired third and fourth rounds of 6-over-par 78 and even-par 72 to finish the tournament with a 12-over-par 300, tying him for 35th place.

Mitchell carded rounds of 12-over-par 84 and 9-over par 81 to end the tournament with a 27-over-par 315. That score put him in 59th place.

Matthew Crenshaw, of Burlington, won the event in a playoff hole over Adam Stephenson, of Greenville.

144 players from North Carolina participated in the event, which was held at Treyburn Country Club in Durham.
