North Carolina is one of the nations leaders in the farming and agriculture industry, which is why Vale houses one of Catawba County's biggest produce farms.

"We moved to this area about 12 years ago from Haywood County," said Martha Calderon, partial owner of Calderon produce. "The harvesting season lasts much longer here and it's better for business."

The climate here in the foothills of western N.C. gives farmers the ability to plant their crops in mid-April and then harvest all throughout the year until early November.
