Abernethy: Newton budget can’t be passed if no one is there to vote on it

Dear Editor,
The City of Newton’s proposed budget is as difficult as any I have seen. The people of Newton are facing a 3 cents property tax increase as well as 5 percent rate hikes for water and wastewater. “Budget Time” is never easy. Decisions made during the process affect the citizens of Newton for years to come.
