Trailing 3-2 after five innings, the Lexington Legends scored five runs in the final four innings to pull away with the 7-3 victory against the Hickory Crawdads on Thursday at L.P. Frans Stadium.
Four of those runs came in two innings, including two each in the top of the sixth and top of the ninth.
Delino DeShields plated the first Lexington run in the sixth with his second triple of the season, bringing home James Howick.
A batter later, Jordan Scott singled to center field, plated DeShields to make it a 4-3 lead for Lexington (25-21).
Roberto Pena delivered a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to add a pair of insurance runs late, allowing the Legends to hold on for the win.
Drew Robinson and Trever Adams led the Crawdads (21-24) with an RBI each in the contest, while Luis Sardinas and Kellin Deglan each had a pair of hits.
Hickory and Lexington play the second game of the series Friday at 7 p.m. at L.P. Frans Stadium.View more articles in:
