Late free throw lifts Foard past Maiden

A free throw by Foard’s Joe Isenhour with no time remaining lifted the Tigers past Maiden, 38-37, and into the fifth-place game of the Catawba Valley Classic.

After an inbound pass by the Blue Devils hit the ceiling, Foard had a chance to take the lead with the game tied 37-37.

Isenhour launched a 15-foot shot that missed the mark as the buzzer sounded
However, the referees called a foul on Maiden, giving Isenhour two free throw attempts.

He sank the first of two, giving Foard the victory.

Red Devils advance past Bunker Hill

Joshuwell McCombs scored 13 points, including 11 in the second half, lifting Newton-Conover to a victory against Bunker Hill in one of two semifinals in the boys consolation bracket of the Catawba Valley Classic.
Lee Mitchell tacked on nine points in the win for the Red Devils.

Newton-Conover took a 21-14 lead into the halftime break, thanks in part to seven points from Mitchell.

N-C outscored the Bears 30-22 in the second half.

Bunker Hill was led by Jordan McGinnis’ 11 points.

The Red Devils face Fred T. Foard today at 2:30 p.m. today in the fifth-place game.
