Lady Indians, Pioneers claim NWC swim titles

St. Stephens' girls and Watauga's boys were big winners Wednesday at the Northwestern 3A/4A swimming championships.

The Lady Indians and Pioneers each won team titles at the conference meet, which was held at the Hickory Foundation YMCA.

Both the boy's and girl's standings came down to the last relay to determine the winners.

Four Northwestern 3A/4A meet records were also broken on Wednesday, including St. Stephens' Maria Turcanu in the women's 500-yard freestyle, St. Stephens' girl's 400-yard freestyle relay team, Watauga's girl's 200-yard medley relay team and St. Stephens' Sava Turcanu in the men's 100-yard butterfly.
