Lady Bucs win second match, shut out Lady Storm

September 4, 2012

The Catawba Valley Community College volleyball team picked up its second win of the season in shutout fashion on Tuesday, knocking off the Davidson County Community College Lady Storm in three-straight sets 25-23, 25-16 and 25-16.

The Lady Bucs (2-0, 1-0) were led by Jennifer Beatty, who tallied 10 kills, while teammate Kailey Russell added seven kills.

The duo helped CVCC pull away early in the first set and hold on for the 25-23 victory to take a 1-0 advantage in the match.

Defense also helped the Lady Bucs, especially in the second set.

Hannah Lewis and Ashley Almond both had five digs in set No. 2, while Russell and Ceci Brandon tallied three blocks. All four performances combined helped give CVCC a two-set cushion.

Led by four kills from Beatty and two from Brandon in the third set, CVCC once again distanced itself early on its way to sweeping DCCC in its second home match of the season.

Four CVCC players paced the team in digs, including Leah Wells with 14, Lewis with 13, Almond with 10 and Beatty with eight.

The Lady Bucs return home next Thursday, Sept. 13 when they face Spartanburg Methodist College at 7 p.m. during "Faculty Appreciation Night."
