Lady Bucs win Region tourney, advance to nationals

The Catawba Valley Community College volleyball team advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships with a pair of victories on Saturday.

The Lady Bucs (34-0) won the Region X/District P tournament with a pair of five-set victories against Pitt Community College in the semifinals (26-24, 25-20, 22-25, 22-25 and 15-10) and Pasco-Hernando Community College in the finals (12-25, 25-22, 26-24, 20-25 and 18-16).

Jennifer Beatty tallied 23 kills, 23 digs, three aces and one block against Pitt Community College to help CVCC advance to the title game.

Leah Wells followed that up with a 14-kill, 13-dig performance against Pasco-Hernandez (20-15) in the championship match.

Wells also added two assists and one block in the game.

Catawba Valley Community College advances to the NJCAA National Championship, which is being held in Toledo, Ohio on Nov. 15-17.

The Lady Bucs are the second CVCC team to play in a national tournament. The CVCC baseball team advanced to the NJCAA World Series this past spring in Enid, Okla.
