Kidnapping suspect caught

June 8, 2011

Sheriff's deputies now have an alleged kidnapper in custody after a 4-hour search.

Jamey Lineberger, 33, took a woman, who he was in a former relationship with, from her home near Bethany Church Road and forced her into a van. Lineberger then led Catawba County sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase for about 15 miles into Lincoln County near Goodson Road.

Sheriff Coy Reid said Lineberger drove his van through a field and hit a fence, wrecking his van. Lineberger then escaped the vehicle on foot. Reid said K-9 units tracked Lineberger to N.C. 150 east, where they lost his scent.

"He may have gotten a ride," Reid said.

At about 1 p.m. Wednesday, sheriff's deputies announced Lineberger is in custody.

Reid said the female victim was located and has no injuries. In addition to the two sheriff's departments, N.C. Highway Patrol also used its helicopter during the search in Lincoln County.
