Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Timothy S. Kincaid of Newton has told the Observer-News-Enterprise he will retire from the judicial system after more than 28 years as a judge in North Carolina Judicial District 25B, which is Catawba County, when his current term ends in December 2014.

He will then be succeeded as the senior resident Superior Court Judge for the district by Superior Court Judge Nathaniel J. Poovey of Maiden. Candidates for the second Superior Court judgeship in the local district will be able to begin filing with the Board of Elections in February. Whoever is chosen by voters in the November 2014 general election will serve an eight-year term—until 2022--on the Superior Court bench.
