Indians slide by Tigers into Classic semifinals

St. Stephens baseball coach Chip Watts likened his team’s performance in this year’s Catawba County Easter Baseball Classic to being in the NCAA tournament.

“We talked about March Madness and living for the occasion,” Watts said. “Big players make big plays in big ball games.”

The Tribe made big plays when they mattered the most.

Indians center fielder Ky’rawn Whitfield scored from third base on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning, helping second-seeded Saint (7-3) advance to the semifinals of the Classic with a 4-3 victory against No. 7 Fred T. Foard.
