What had been a dream season for St. Stephens ended on Tuesday with a 1-0 loss to Charlotte Catholic in the 3A Western Regional championship game at Keffer Stadium in Charlotte.

An own goal kicked in by Indians defender Amanda Hall in the 39th minute ended up being the difference maker.

The Cougars (25-1-1) advance to this Saturday's 3A state championship game in Raleigh, where they will face either White Oak (20-2-2) or Cardinal Gibbons (15-2-5) for a chance to win their second-straight 3A state title.

St. Stephens, which only allowed three goals in the entire postseason, ends its season at 22-2-2 overall.
