Hospice to open new facility in Sherrills Ford.

Wednesday was a new beginning in end-of-life care for Catawba County.
Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley board members and staff broke ground Wednesday at the center’s new Sherrills Ford Hospice House site.
The six-bed inpatient facility, located at 7473 Sherrills Ford Road, will serve eastern Catawba County, parts of Lincoln County, Denver and Mooresville, areas whose needs were previously unmet.
“I think you’ll find that there won’t be any empty beds when the center opens,” said Geri Thornburg, a registered nurse who works at the Hospice facility on Robinson Road in Newton. “We’ve seen a lot of growth, especially in the eastern part of the county.”
The 15,000-square-foot Sherrills Ford facility is designed to allow an additional six-bed expansion, should the need arise.
The facility will take about one year to complete and be certified by Division of Health Service Regulation, Medicare and Medicaid.
