A man assaulted and robbed a homeless person on Sunday in Newton.
Police say Brandon Horne, 31, of 504 S. Main Ave. in Newton, struck a homeless man in the head outside of Corner Food at 112 E. â€śDâ€ť St. in Newton, stole the manâ€™s bicycle and left the scene.
Newton Police Maj. Kevin Yarborough said Horne and the homeless man, Ronald Ed Hunter, knew each other.
Horne was charged with common law robbery, possession of stolen goods and second-degree trespassing. He is being held on a combined $6,000 bond at the Catawba County Detention Center in Newton.
