Hickory High running back Jahiz Linebarger was presented with the first Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award of the season on Tuesday.

Linebarger, who also plays defensive back for the Red Tornadoes, helped rally Hickory to a 25-20 road victory against Statesville this past Friday.

He rushed for over 110 yards with two touchdowns against Statesville — part of 25 unanswered points in the contest.

On defense, Linebarger caused two fumbles and had a pair of touchdown-saving tackles against the Greyhounds.

The victory for Hickory marked the first win under new head coach Mike Helms.

The Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award is presented weekly to the top high school football player from the past week.

Check back in the Observer News Enterprise each week for a picture and information on each weekly award winner.
