Hickory's Gallo, Alfaro selected to MLB Futures Game

A pair of Hickory Crawdads will represent the Texas Rangers organization on a big stage July 14.

Third baseman Joey Gallo and catcher Jorge Alfaro were both selected to the 2013 Major League Baseball Futures Game at Citi Stadium in New York, N.Y.

The game is part of MLB’s All-Star festivities, which includes the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game.

Gallo, a Las Vegas, Nevada native, is batting .237 in 75 games this season with 66 hits, 58 runs scored and 45 RBIs.

He is also current second in the South Atlantic league behind teammate Ryan Rua in home runs with 23.

Gallo was selected in the first round (39th overall) by the Texas Rangers in the 2012 MLB Draft.

Alfaro leads the Crawdads in hits this season with 67.

He has also tallied 15 doubles, one triple and 10 home runs to go along with 34 RBIs on the year.

Both HIckory players are the first Crawdads to play in the Futures Game since shortstop Jurickson Profar did two seasons ago.

The 2013 MLB Futures Game will be televised live on July 14 at 2 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN2.
