Hickory's Brigham gets award

August 16, 2010

The South Atlantic League announced on Monday that Jake Brigham is the SAL Pitcher of the Week for Aug. 9-15. He is the fourth Crawdad this season to earn an SAL Weekly Award, joining center fielder Miguel Velazquez (Player of the Week, May 3 - 9), first baseman Mike Ortiz (Player of the Week, April 26 - May 2) and pitcher Robbie Erlin (Pitcher of the Week, June 21 - 27).

Brigham, 22, earned a win in his lone start during the week, pitching a complete game shutout Tuesday against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. After allowing back-to-back singles to open the bottom of the first inning, Brigham retired the next 26 batters faced, picking up all 27 outs in a row. In his nine innings on the mound, Brigham racked up a career-high 12 strikeouts, also a team-high for any Crawdad this year.

Brigham is currently 3-3 with a 3.10 ERA for the Crawdads this season.
