Hickory tops Maiden for Easter title, Warriors third

Hickory claimed its first Catawba County Easter Baseball Classic title since 1999 with a 12-1 mercy rule victory against Maiden on Wednesday at Henkel-Alley Field.

Nick Guarino went 3-for-4 from the plate, including two runs and two RBIs. He also pitched seven innings, striking out four, walking two and allowing two hits and one earned run.

Third-place game: No. 6 West Caldwell 14, No. 1 South Iredell 6

Tre Harper struck out 13 batters and allowed seven hits, six runs and no walks to lead the Warriors to a third-place finish.

Harper had a perfect game going through 3.1, but it was broken up.

Thomas Gunnels went 2-for-5 from the plate for West Caldwell (7-9), connecting on two home runs, scoring two runs and driving in three RBIs. Dustin McElyea also went 3-for-4 with a solo home run.

Caleb Cervan and Eythan Kramm both drove in an RBI each to lead South Iredell (9-5). All the Vikings other runs came on six West Caldwell errors.
