With one swing of the bat late in Wednesday's game, Hickory Post 48's season and opportunity to make it back to the Area IV championship series ended.

Gaston's Justin Williams doubled with one out in the bottom of the ninth to pull out the 11-10 walkoff victory over Hickory Post 48.

With the victory, the Braves (16-4) sweep the series against Post 48, 3-0, and advance to the Area IV semifinals, where they will meet the winner of Caldwell County and Mint Hill.

Caldwell currently leads that series, 2-1.

Hickory, who was the No. 3 seed in the West Division, finishes its season with an 18-7 record, including a 3-3 playoff mark. Post 48 also finished the regular season as co-champions of the Western Division with Cherryville and Caldwell County.

Tyler Pait led Hickory on offense with a three-run homer, while Jordan Eckard added a pair of hits.

Wednesday's loss marked the first time in the postseason that Hickory had lost a contest when scoring at least 10 runs in a ball game.
