Hickory Post 48 trailed Hendersonville 8-5 in the top of the ninth inning with one out before lightening delayed the game at Henkel-Alley Field.

The game was eventually called at around 11:15 p.m. after rain and more lightening entered the area.

With the loss, Post 48 is handed its third-straight defeat this season after dropping home contests to Burke County (10-8) on Friday and Gastonia (9-5) on Monday.

Hickory led 4-1 after three innings, but Hendersonville roared back with three runs in the sixth to tie the contest.

Avery Sneed had an RBI double in the inning for Post 77 (4-6, 3-3).

One run in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed Post 48 (3-3, 2-2) to gain a 5-4 advantage in the game.

Phillip Carroll doubled in the inning and later scored on a wild pitch by Hendersonville’s Cameron Crisp.

Hendersonville wasn’t done yet, answering with four runs in the next half-inning — three of which were unearned.

The only earned run of the inning came on an RBI sacrifice fly by Post 77 second baseman Sage Cornatzer.

Hendersonville had one runner on base with one out in the ninth inning before the delay occurred.

Davis Hanvey led Hickory on offense, tallying four hits and one walk in five at-bats. Zach Jarrett added two RBIs on a 1-for-4 day at the plate, while Aaron Rudisill drove in one RBI on a sac fly in the third inning.

Post 48 starting pitcher Colton Allison was tagged with the loss, allowing eight runs (six earned), 11 hits, five walks and striking out eight Post 77 batters.

Pitcher Cameron Crisp picked up the win in relief for Hendersonville.

Hickory is on the road Thursday against Waynesville for a 7 p.m. contest.

Post 48 returns home on Friday for a doubleheader against Lincoln County, which is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
