Hickory Post 48 overcame an early deficit on the road against Rutherford County on Thursday to pick up its third victory of the season.

Rutherford County (2-3) scored four runs in the bottom of the second, including a two-RBI double by Joel McDaniel, to take a 4-0 lead.

Luke Barton got the Post 48 rally started in the sixth inning with an RBI single to put Hickory on the board.

Post 48 carried that momentum the next time up to bat by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh.

Included in that offensive outburst was a two-RBI double by Matt Johnson and RBI singles from Zach Jarrett, Jordan Eckard and Jackson Gilliam.

Eckard added a second RBI single in the ninth inning to give his team an insurance run and the game's final 8-4 tally.

Hickory (3-0, 2-0) churned out 12 hits in Thursday's victory, including three from Jarrett and two apiece from Colton Chapman, Eckard and Barton.

Greg Lucas picked up the win on the mound, allowing four runs, five hits, two walks. He also struck out four Post 423 batters.

Post 48 is back in action on Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Burke County Post 21 for "Little League Night."

Any kid age 14 and under that wears their little league jersey gets into Friday's game for free.
