A man will serve at least 13 years in prison for the 2009 murder of his former Conover roommate
Jonathan Scott Brown, 30, of Hickory, pled guilty to second-degree murder Wednesday in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court. Superior Court Judge Beverly Beal sentenced Brown to no less than 166 months and no more than 209 months of active prison time in the N.C. Department of Correction.
Brown pled guilty to murdering his then-roommate, Lee Hill Bryson, on March 4, 2009, by shooting him with a handgun. Brown then buried Bryson’s body in a shallow grave in Burke County.
Bryson, who was 32, was reported missing by his family on March 9, 2009, and Brown turned himself in to authorities March 19 of that same year.
Prior to the murder, Bryson and Brown lived together at an apartment located at 1458 Old Boxwood Circle, off Herman Sipe road in Conover.
In court on Thursday, attorneys revealed that the two argued prior to the shooting.
