Hickory man faces sex charges

April 5, 2011

A Hickory man faces sexual charges with a child, who is apparently a family member.

Daniel Devenney, 42, was arrested Friday after Catawba County Department of Social Services notified Hickory Police of a possible crime. The police started an investigation Friday morning, involving Devenney and a 10-year-old child. Devenney was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with one count each of felony indecent liberties with children, felony first-degree sexual assault and felony child abuse.

Devenney is employed as an electrician with Hickory, but he is under administrative review by the city pending Hickory Police's investigation.

Devenney is in jail with a $200,000 bond, and his next court date is April 25.

Hickory Police continue to investigate the situation.
