Hickory hammers Burke Co. on diamond, 17-7

Hickory Post 48 earned another victory in the Area IV West Division on Monday, knocking off Burke County Post 21 at Henkel-Alley Field at the American Legion Fairgrounds, 17-7.

Colton Chapman and Davis Hanvey led Post 48 (10-2, 8-1) with three RBIs each, while Jordan Eckerd and Jordan Fulbright added two RBIs each.

On the mound, Robert Whaley threw a complete game, allowing six earned runs, six hits, three walks and struck out 10 Post 21 batters. He improves his record this season to 3-1.

Tre Young led Burke County (2-7, 2-7) by going 1-for-3 with a home run.

Post 21's Chris Reid, who suffered the loss on the mound, allowed nine runs (two earned), seven walks and five hits.

Hickory Post 48 is back in action at home Tuesday in non-Area IV action against Moundsville (W.Va.). Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Henkel-Alley Field at the Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds.
