Hickory earns top seeds in CV Classic pairings

December 19, 2011

The pairings for this year’s Catawba Valley Classic were released Monday.

The opening round for the tournament starts on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

The boys’ slate of games will be played at Hickory High School, while the girls games will be at the Tarlton Complex, formerly the Multi-Purpose Center, at Catawba Valley Community College.

Hickory, the defending boys champion, is seeded No. 1 and will take on Bunker Hill at 6 p.m.

The 2010 boys runner-up, St. Stephens, takes on Newton-Conover in a match-up of No. 4 and No. 5 seeds. The two teams have split their two meetings this season on the hardwood.

Defending girls champion Newton-Conover is seeded third again this year, opening up with a game against No. 6 Fred T. Foard.

The contest between the Lady Red Devils and Lady Tigers is a rematch of last year’s championship game, which Newton-Conover won, 66-38.
