Hickory Post 48 bounced back from its first loss in the Area IV West Division play with an 11-6 road victory against Henderson County Post 77 on Wednesday.
Post 48 (9-2, 7-1) scored three runs in the third on a Colton Chapman homer to tie the contest after trailing 3-0. Chapman went 3-for-6 in Wednesday's game, including two singles and three RBIs.
Hickory took the lead for the first and final time in the sixth inning by plating a pair of runs.
Cole McGraw led Post 48 offensively, going 5-for-6 from the plate with three singles, a double and a leadoff home run in the eight inning. He finished the game with three RBIs.
Robert Whaley added three RBIs and Tyler Pait scored two runs.
Hickory tallied 15 hits in the contest and also drew seven walks.
Post 48's Colton Allison improved to 2-0 on the mound, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks. He struck out four Post 77 batters, as well.
Nick Guarino and Jordan Fulbright pitched the remaining four innings in relief, allowing no runs.
David Batson suffered the loss on the mound for Henderson County. Daniel Hyatt led Post 77 on offense with three hits and a run scored.
Post 48 returns from its road trip on Monday when it faces Burke County Post 21 (1-4, 1-4) at Henkel-Alley Field at the American Legion Fairgrounds. Game time is set for 7 p.m.View more articles in:
