Hickory Post 48 is in the second round of the Area IV playoffs.

Post 48 defeated Alexander County, 7-5, on Friday at Henkel-Alley Field to advance with a 3-1 series victory.

Deadlocked 5-5 in the eighth inning, Hickory broke its tie with back-to-back RBI hits from Ky'rawn Whitfield and Austin LaPierre — two of 15 base knocks for the squad in the contest.

LaPierre led the way offensively with three hits, while Whitfield, Aaron Rudisill, Kyle Kelly, Joe Butler and Walker Hanvey each tallied two hits apiece.

Aiding the squad were seven solid innings on the mound from starting pitcher Cameron Chapman.

Whitfield came in for Chapman to close for the team, picking up the win.

Hickory's next playoff series will be against Asheville Post 70, which defeated Huntersville Post 321 in its first roudn series, 3-1.

The Hickory-Asheville series is expected to start Monday, according to Hickory coach Cam Beard.

The two teams split their regular season series at one game apiece.

Asheville defeated Hickory, 14-4, at home on June 4, but Post 48 returned the favor with a 15-5 seven-inning victory at Henkel-Alley Field on June 20.
