Gumbs, RiverDogs rally to beat Crawdads, 9-5

Behind a four-run seventh and one-run eighth, the Charleston RiverDogs topped the Hickory Crawdads for the second-straight day on Wednesday, 9-5.

Trailing 5-4 after six innings, Charleston (36-22) rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, including a three-run homer by Angelo Gumbs that scored Gary Sanchez and Dante Bichette Jr.

Hanser Alberto led Hickory (31-27) with a 1-for-5 performance at the plate with two RBIs.

Charleston's Mariel Checo improved to 6-1 on the season with the win on the mound. Hickory's Will Lamb fell to 0-5 with the loss on the blown save.

Hickory and Charleston complete the three-game series Thursday with a 7:50 p.m. contest in South Carolina.
