"It's like watching a child grow backwards," said Marlu Taylor, 63, of Hickory. "But there's no pleasure in that. A child can't wait to make their first step, and with the adults, they eventually can't make a step."

Taylor's husband, Buddy, passed away in 2011 after battling Alzheimer's disease for nine years.
